Flowers resemble crepe paper tulips in colors so “gutsy” that Papaver is a must in every garden. Deer have nibbled the fresh, new foliage in the fall without retarding the glorious late spring flowers. Poppy foliage is completely dormant by the end of June, so plant among slow-starting, late bloomers like Asclepias, Buddleia and Perovskia.
