Guide Wire and Ground Stakes

Shipping charge for deer fencing supplies on this page is $9.95 no matter how much you order (to 48 contiguous US states).

How to determine which Ground Stakes and Guide Wire you need for your deer Fence:
  1. Choose Ground Stakes versus Ground Staples. The Stakes are 12” long and installed about 5’ apart – 14 per 100’ of Fencing. Staples are 6” long and installed about 2.5’ apart – 42 per 100’. A deer browsing along the fence line can push her nose under the Fencing to eat more weeds and has been known to then slither right under! Being galvanized and kinked, the Stakes are more secure for the long term but the shorter Staples are often chosen by gardeners with rocky soil. Some gardeners have used large rocks or other materials they had on hand to secure their Fencing to the ground.
  2. Choose your Guide Wire. The 11 gauge is a smaller diameter than the 8 gauge. Gravity and snow can contribute to a little sag in your Fencing between Posts. Guide Wire holds your fence up taut for a cleaner look and offers a little extra protection against falling branches.
  3. Choose how you will install the Guide Wire to the top of the Fencing. Your installation will go faster when you use the C-rings attached with the 9/16 Pliers. However, if you are installing 165’ or less of Fencing, you can weave the Wire along the top of the Fencing and would not need any C-rings.
  4. Choose how to secure the Guide Wire to metal Corner and End Posts. (Just use fence nails or heavy-duty staples to attach it to wood Posts.) For smaller installations, use the inexpensive Cable Clamps which need only a common household tool like pliers or a nut driver to install. The Connection Sleeves are faster to install but require the Crimping Tool.
